Recently, I’ve been watching Yale’s “Introduction to Theory of Literature.” In Lecture 4 on Configurative Reading, the discussion about Gadamer’s merging horizons and the spark plug metaphor seems to align with Agamben’s reference to Pasquali’s “melancholy of philology”(melancholia philologica). That “aha moment” brought by the exact spot of merging suddenly exposes the deeper abyss of uncertainty, or a seemingly agnostic pulse.
